Written Report of 70th Birthday Thanksgiving Dinner

K. C Ung's 70th. Birthday Thanksgiving Dinner
March 10, 2007
"A 70-Photo Pictorial"

On 10th March, the wife and children of KC Ung and their respective families held a special Thanksgiving Dinner and Programme to thank God and all his prayer-partners who have had practical fellowship with him in one way or other in his ministry for the Lord on the occasion of his 70th Birthday. Because of the limited space at Mama's Nonya Food many others were inevitably left out for which his children apologised sincerely. Herewith is a pictorial report of the occasion for those who were, and could not be there.

38. After the speeches, came the Trivia Quiz on KC Ung to expose his private life to the public by his son, Alvin. Question 1 was: What is his favourite fruit? (Answer: Bananas) Mr. Chee Swee Foo got it right and was rewarded a bunch of bananas for his effort

50. For the ninth question which sounded like: What is the forbidden time to visit him? (2-3 pm) Ms. Martha Samuel knows when not to disturb KC Ung when he has his afternoon nap. For that she won a cash voucher to eat Fish Head Curry at his favourite Nasi Kandar shop at Penang Street
51. The last question was the highlight of the quiz and also the most difficult. The reward was a two-fold prize. No one got the answer correct. The question was: How old is his motorcycle? (37 years, i.e. since 1970!) There were many guesses, and the nearest one of "38 years" came from Mrs. Wong Ngui Wye. For that she won a FREE PILLION RIDE on PK9454 with UNG KIM CHENG and thereafter for BREAKFAST @ JELUTONG MARKET!!! KC Ung is looking forward to pillion her around on his ramshackled bike. But first she will have to travel from Bukit Mertajam to his house
52. After Alvin's Quiz, the Khaws (Dorothy and Robert) presented a Powerpoint perspective of the life of KC Ung from the time he was a baby until now. It was remarked that when he was a baby he was bald; now he is balding and proceeding to his second childhood!
53. 1st Childhood - A Bald Baby!
Is KC's balding pate now leading him to a 2nd childhood?
54. After the Quiz, Alvin gave his address for the occasion. It was
entitled "Seven Paradoxical Attributes of Dad" and they are: 1: You are a gifted teacher yet you are teachable. 2. You have a steadfast faith in God yet you continue to change and grow. 3. You are tough enough to withstand withering criticism yet meek enough to be easily moved by compassion
55. 4. You have a pioneering spirit yet you are a deeply rooted person. 5. You are busy with public ministry yet you have a hidden devotion to family. 6. You have big dreams yet you love small things. 7. You are a man oriented toward action yet you are a man of private prayer.
56. After Alvin's sharing came his elder brother's, Christopher's turn. Chris and his family could not be present as they now stay in Chicago, Illinois. Instead, Chris sent a powerpoint presentation of his message to his dad for this special occasion. The message script was read by his sister, Dorothy, to all gathered there
57. Chris celebrating his dad's birthday in Chicago with his family?? In pic, 3-year-old Isabelle, Deborah, 11-year-old Tara and Chris.
58. It was now time to bring in the birthday cake. It was shaped like an open Bible with his 70th Birthday greetings on its pages and Psa. 31:3
59.The lights were dimmed and the birthday boy and his wife were called upon to blow the candle and cut the cake
60. With that blow, the birthday boy was proclaimed three score and ten and he made his birthday wish. Wonder what it was!
61. It was now time for the birthday boy to respond to the four speakers and to his children who hosted the whole occasion
62.He was thankful to his Good, Great and Glorious God for watching over and leading him for more than half a century since he came to know Him. He was thankful to his wife of over 40 years who was a constant companion to him
63. He was thankful to all his children and their spouses and their
children who loved him for all his paradoxical attributes
64. He was thankful to all his prayer-partners and to all who had shown practical fellowship with him and who had taken time off to grace this special occasion. He was very THANKFUL to have partners like these around him. The programme ended with a dessert - Bubur Chacha (- bananas, potatoes cooked in coconut milk) after which all guests wished the birthday boy and MAMA goodbye. It was already 10.30p.m. and all needed to go home to prepare themselves for the Lord's Supper the next morning.
65. Finally all good things must come to an end. It was time to say 'Thank you" personally and "Goodbye" to all who so graciously took time off to spend time with the birthday boy.
66. Thank you
67. Thank you again.
68.And thank you for coming.
69. Yes, every one - young as well as old. To all a big THANK YOU!
70. Time to clear up and time to move away
Time to face yet another day
and time to Thank God for each bonus day
After the three score and ten.
Thank You, God and thank you all
